Upper Falls on Moccasin Creek

FaHemlock Falls (lower falls) on Moccasin Creek

The hike to both major falls on Moccasin Creek passes numerous cascades and small falls. This one is at the foot bridge which crosses the creek shortly before reaching the lower falls.

The falls on Moccasin Creek are in the Chattahoochee National Forest near Moccasin Creek State Park on Lake Burton. To reach the falls from Clayton Follow US76 West 11 miles to Hwy. GA197 and turn left. Go another 3.7 miles on GA197 to Moccasin Creek State Park and turn right at the sign to Hemlock Falls. Continue 0.5 miles to the trailhead. Park here and follow the trail up the creek for approximately 1 mile to the lower (Hemlock) falls. Continue on the trail past Hemlock Falls for a hundred yards or so until you can find a place to safely cross Moccasin Creek. After crossing the creek follow the well used and very scenic trail (but not maintained) upstream along almost continuous large cascades for about one half mile. The trail arrives at the top of the falls. Above the falls Moccasin Creek becomes a placid stream.
