Shoals on Mill Creek reached just a short distance from the parking area about .5 miles upstream from the main falls.

Nearby Conasauga Lake

Mill Creek Falls can be reached from Elijay by continuing five miles past Conasauga Lake or from Hwy 441 in Chatsworth and Crandall. From Crandall turn east on Grassy St. and after crossing the railroad turn right on Crandall/Elijay Hwy and almost immediately turn left onto Mill Creek Road which becomes FS630. The pavements ends in .6 miles. Follow FS630 6 miles to Hickey Gap and veer down to the right to the camping area and Mill Creek. Park and walk down Mill Creek a short distance to the long cascading double falls. Continue walking downstream about .5 miles on a very nice stream side walk reaching a sloping shelf of conglomerate rock above the falls. The rock shelf leads into the falls which drops in a steep cascade about 30 feet to a shallow pool. To reach the bottom of the falls it will be necessary to scramble down a steep uneven rock outcropping.

To reach the falls from Elijay take Hwy 52W 5 miles and turn right on Gates Chapel Rd. to FS90, taking FS90 to FS68 and following signs to Conasauga Lake. Go aboout 5.4 miles to the National Forest and FS90. Follow FS90 1.6 miles and turn right on FS68 at the junction with FS68. Follow FS68 3.5 miles (past Barnes Creek Falls and picnic area and overlook view of Fort Mountain) to the junction with FS64 at Potatopatch Mtn. Turn left and continue on FS68 4.1 miles to FS17. Continue on FS68 1.5 miles to reach Conasauga Lake. To go to Mill Creek Falls turn right on FS17 for 3.3 miles to the junction of FS 630. Turn left on FS630 and continuing 2.3 miles to Hickey gap. Turn left down to the camping area and Mill Creek. Follow Mill Creek downstream to the falls as described above.

Conasauga Lake is a beautiful high mountain lake (~3100 ft elevation) for swimming, fishing, picnicing and camping and near the Cohutta Wilderness Area for trout fishing and hiking.
