Horse Trough Falls

This beautiful falls is on the headwaters of the Chattahoochee River and after driving to the area can be reached on a short walk along a easy pathway.

The footbridge on the path to Horse Trough Falls is the first bridge to cross the Chattahoochee. Horse Trough creek joins the Chattahoochee just below the bridge.


To reach Horse Trough Falls proceed approximately 9 miles north on Hwy 75 from Helen, Georgia and turn left on FS44 at Unicoi Gap. Follow FS44 five miles to the Upper Chattahoochee River Camping area. Turn right and proceed to the day use parking area at the far end of the camping area. Beginning at the trailhead sign to the falls near the parking area follow the trail 200 yards to the observation platform which will provide an unobstructed view of the falls. In the winter, part of the camping area may be closed and it is possible that you will have to park at the entrance to the camping area and walk to the trailhead, a distance of approximately one half mile.
