High Shoals Creek Falls

This falls along with Blue Hole Falls is located in the High Shoals Scenic Area. From Unicoi Gap 10 miles north of Helen proceed north on Hwy. 75 for 2 more miles. Before reaching Hwy 180 turn right at the High Shoals Scenic Area sign. The trailhead parking area is 1.3 miles on the left. Hike down the trail to High Shoals Creek and then down the creek through rhododendron thickets to the falls. The first observation deck will be for Blue Hole Falls. The trail continues to High Shoals Creek Falls at a second observation deck.

After decending to the creek the well-maintained trail then crosses the creek and wanders beside the creek to the falls.

The placid stream along the trail soon begins to drop rapidly. As it enters into view through a narrow opening in the rocks it begins to display the power of rapidly moving water.

At the bottom of the falls the water again begins its smooth flow. This is repeated throughout the north Georgia mountains creating waterfalls too numerous to ever be completely chronicled. But we try!

The contrast between the power and gentleness of the water's flow may be what attracts so many to visit these wonders of nature.

The US Forest Service and Ga. Dept. of Natural Resources are doing an outstanding job of maintaining trails and providing observation decks from which to view falls with minimum impact on the environment.
